Royal Ascot
Royal Ascot is a sporting venue, where the best racehorses in the world take place. Over the past 300 years Royal Ascot has established itself as a national institution and the centre of the British social calendar.
It was founded by Queen Anne and the first race was held on 11th August 1711.
The Queen, Elizabeth II, takes great interest in the races and over the years she has had great sucess with her horses. Every year the Royal family attend the meeting and it has become a social event with a strict dress code. Women have to wear formal day dress, with a hat or fascinator and men have to wear black or grey morning suits, including a waistcoat, along with a top hat.
